About artist
The School of the Voloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, or Voloshky School, was founded in 1972 in Philadelphia under the direction of Zoia Hraur Korsun. The mission of the school is to train dancers in Ukrainian dance, and to educate the Ukrainian community and the general public about the culture of the Ukrainian people through dance. In its 52nd year, the Voloshky School, housed in the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center in Jenkintown, PA, has over 170 students from ages 4 to 16, as well as a Performing Group whose purpose is to provide its older dancers with an opportunity to perform and perpetuate the Ukrainian culture at various community events throughout the year. Throughout the decades, its students have grown not only as talented dancers, but also as ambassadors of Ukraine, performing at various events from local performances to larger, public venues in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Washington D.C. while sharing its culture. Today, the Voloshky School proudly continues its work not only toward its artistic and cultural mission of preserving Ukrainian culture through music and dance, but also toward its goal of providing humanitarian aid to children who have been impacted by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
