Popravyny, a spirited Ukrainian polka band hailing from Toronto, draws inspiration from the rich cultural tapestry of Eastern Europe. Their name, derived from the traditional 'поправини', reflects their commitment to celebrating community, spontaneity, and musical camaraderie. Like the lively poprayvny gatherings that follow Ukrainian weddings—an extended after-party where musicians arrive with instruments and play spontaneously—Popravyny infuses their performances with the same unscripted magic. The band consists of at least five members at a time, always seasoned musicians, including the consistent quatro of Nick (guitar), Michal (accordion/keys), Andy (drums) and Tamara (vocals). Rooted in tradition yet fresh and invigorating, Popravyny invites everyone to join the dance and celebrate life through their traditional Ukrainian music.
