Canadian Bandurist Capella

About artist

The Canadian Bandurist Capella is a male bandurist chorus founded in 2001 by a group of
like-minded individuals whose goal was to promote Ukrainian music and culture. In 2026 the
Canadian Bandurist Capella is celebrating its 25 th anniversary. Since inception, in over 140+
concerts, it has shared the music of Ukraine, both traditional and modern in scope, not only in
Toronto but in many centres of the Ukrainian diaspora, throughout Canada and the US. This
year the Capella embarked on a tour to share its choral heritage with audiences in eastern
Canada.

The Echo of Our Past-Voice of Our Future Concert Tour highlighted a curated retrospective of
the ensemble’s most powerful repertoire from the last quarter-century. Alongside traditional
Ukrainian choral arrangements and the resonant strings of Ukraine’s national instrument the
bandura, the program featured poignant modern pieces inspired by the ongoing war in Ukraine,
offering audiences a profound connection to current cultural realities.

Under the artistic direction of Pavlo Fondera and Ron Demeda this milestone tour represented
both a look back at twenty-five years of cultural preservation and a vital response to the present
day. Through its music, the Capella honours the deep roots of its past while lending a voice to
the resilience and future of Ukraine.
